Buckeye Butterfly (Junonia coenia)

I took a class on incorporating insects into out botanical pieces. We were working with colored pencils, and our instructor gave me a sheet of Duralar film to try out. I used to draft on this type of film when architects and engineers still drafted by hand (before computers), and frankly, I was not keen on the idea of using it in my artwork, but I was surprised to see that by working on both sides of the film I could intensify the colors or blur the background--an interesting experiment that came off well. I may try this material again on a similar subject. I worked from my own photograph, which I took in my garden a few years ago.
