Directly across the road from the Asile de St. Paul in St. Remy, (where Van Gogh lived and painted) there is this impressive 6th Century roman monument—the parking lot for the tourists coming to visit the Asile and the ruins of Glanum is built around it. A bench in the shade of the trees around the monument was very appealing spot to paint from in the mid-afternoon heat, and the light on the monument brought out all its classical details to perfection. |
