Our new friend Francoise, a local painter, showed us some new villages in the farther reaches of Haute Provence where she likes to paint. This one, the name of which we agreed to keep secret, was wonderfully untouched by the modern world. The lavender fields around the village were not as manicured as the ones in the Luberon Valley, but the combination of the red poppies, the golden weeds and the purple of the lavender were so eye-catching I knew I had to paint it. I painted it quickly from my photos a few days after I got back home. |
